Basketball Analytics Internship - Fall - Indiana Pacers (Indianapolis, IN)

This is a for-credit paid internship. Only those applicants who are able to receive college credit will be considered.

LENGTH OF INTERNSHIP: Early September – December 2017 (Approximately 14 weeks)

HOURS PER WEEK: Full-time (Average 30+ hours per week)

COMPENSATION: Indiana minimum wage (currently $7.25 per hour)

Purpose

The Basketball Analytics Intern will work directly with the Indiana Pacers analytics team in support of the front office, training staff, and coaching staff. The overall focus will be on helping develop internal software tools and maintaining current analytics infrastructure. Experience in the sports industry is not required, but applicants must be passionate about basketball.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop internal software tools for use by the front office and coaching staff
  • Gather, clean, store, manage, and integrate data from a variety of sources
  • Create both standardized reports and ad-hoc analyses
  • Maintain and extend our existing analytics infrastructure
  • Innovate across all aspects of basketball operations
  • Collaborate on team projects and work autonomously on individual work
  • Communicate results to the basketball operations staff through presentations, written reports, and tools
  • Assist with compiling statistics/data and reporting for the Indiana Pacers and Fort Wayne Mad Ants
  • Assisting with game night responsibilities as needed

Required Qualifications

  • Must receive college credit from an accredited college/university
  • In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification document form upon hire
  • Demonstrated programming experience.
  • Experience working with R/RStudio or Python
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
  • Experience with statistical analysis and machine learning techniques (eg, regression/modeling, clustering, hypothesis testing, categorical data analysis), commonly used statistics packages, data visualization, data collection methods, and familiarity with basketball analytics.
  • Strong organizational skills with a robust attention to detail in regards both to checking data and visual presentation of deliverables

Basketball Operations Internship - Fall - Indiana Pacers (Indianapolis, IN)

Job Summary

The intern will assist the basketball department with statistical research and analysis, entering data into the collegiate and player personnel database, season preparation, game day responsibilities and other daily tasks/assignments. This position will report directly to the Manager of Basketball Administration and is responsible for assisting with projects for the Analytics, Scouting, and Operations divisions.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Assisting with administrative needs (i.e. scheduling, filing, answering phones, generating daily reports, etc.)

  2. Assisting the scouting division with statistical research and analysis, data entry, draft preparation and travel arrangements

  3. Assist the analytics department with statistical analysis, data entry, and analytics reports.

  4. Help maintain the integrity of the department’s data including daily and periodic cleaning, maintenance, updating, and management of team databases.

  5. Assisting the other divisions as needed - Video Staff, Player Development, etc.

  6. While fulfilling tasks related to the internship, the intern is regularly required to sit at a desk for extended periods of time, stand, walk, and climb stairs and shall be able to exert up to 40 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

  7. May be required to drive to complete internship tasks (if driving is necessary, a valid Driver’s License is required)

  8. Other duties as assigned

Event Production Intern - Pacers Sports and Entertainment (Indianapolis, IN)

SUMMARY:

Pacers Sports & Entertainment has an opening for an intern pursuing a degree in Event Management or Hospitality. This position will report directly to the Event Coordinator and is responsible for assisting with projects for the Utility Set-up, Conversion, and Housekeeping departments. This position will be required to work long and unusual hours at times based on the event schedule and the requirements of the show/event including evenings, weekends, late nights (3rd shift) and/or early mornings.  The candidate filling this position must have excellent organization and communication skills.

  1. Participate and assist in the planning, coordination, and implementation of meetings and events at Bankers Life Fieldhouse 

  2. Assist the Event Production staff by producing weekly meeting sheets that are distributed company wide

  3. Act as the Event Coordinator during assigned events

  4. Assist the Event Production staff with administrative needs (i.e. scheduling meetings, generating instruction sheets, filing documents, etc.)

  5. Assist the Event Production staff with game day responsibilities

  6. Assist promoter and clients to ensure smooth event operations

  7. Assist the Event Production staff with placing vendor orders

  8. Assist event patrons to ensure they have an enjoyable experience

  9. Assist other Facilities Operations divisions as needed – Utility Set-up, Changeover, etc.

  10. Any other duties as assigned
